U.S. Hurricanes, Flooding, Tornadoes & Fires
Across North America, residents have been impacted by multiple disasters — wildfires throughout Texas and neighboring states, and Hurricane Irene up the East Coast from South Carolina to New Brunswick, with massive flooding in Vermont, and torrential rain from Tropical Storm Lee in the Gulf Coast which left severe weather in its wake over the Labor Day weekend. All while working on clean-up from a 5.8 earthquake that generated in Virginia and could be felt as far north as New York.

The American Red Cross states:

Tornadoes spawned by remnants of Lee damaged homes and caused evacuations in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee on Monday, leading the Red Cross to open shelters in all three states. Red Cross shelters were also opened in Louisiana and Mississippi as Lee dumped torrential rain on the Gulf Coast. Heavy rains and extensive flooding are expected to continue as Lee’s remnants expand northeast into the Tennessee Valley and central Appalachian mountains through Tuesday.

The Red Cross is also continuing to help people impacted by Hurricane Irene. To date, the Red Cross has served more than 1.6 million meals and snacks and provided approximately 58,000 overnight shelter stays since the storm made landfall on August 27. The Red Cross is also distributing supplies to help residents who are cleaning up homes damaged by Irene’s wind, rain and floods. So far, the Red Cross has given out more than 516,000 relief items such as hygiene kits, mops, brooms, tarps, work gloves and coolers.

Also, there are many towns like Joplin, Missouri still rebuilding from weather disasters in spring of this year that are still in need of aid and support.

Help is needed now. You can donate to support Red Cross relief efforts throughout the United States by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, through this link, or sending a $10 donation by texting "REDCROSS" to 90999 from your cell phone.

Habitat for Humanity is also helping with rebuilding efforts. Learn more and make a donation here.

Gulf Oil Spill
Excerpt from Machaelle's Health Watch Bulletin on the Gulf Oil Spill: Since the onset of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, a number of you have asked me for suggestions regarding what you can do. I've suggested a couple of things: (1) go to the Gulf and help with the cleanup and/or (2) review your current lifestyle and eliminate even more of your dependence on oil for fuel, energy and products. Here's a new suggestion that is very timely and important. Those living near the Gulf and working on the shoreline or in boats to contain or clean up the spill are starting to experience serious health reactions from exposure to the oil. Primarily, they are having respiratory problems and mysterious skin rashes.

You can read the rest of Machaelle's Bulletin including information on Perelandra tools that can help and what we're offering to make this easier by clicking the link below.
