Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world;
indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

Climate Change

You have power and you have choices.

Here's how Perelandra and your nature partner can help you.

The latest bad news from the IPCC about the impending climate doom and how much irreversible damage humans have caused is not cause to give up. It's a call to action. The next action you take doesn't have to be "big" to make a difference. And you have an "ace in the hole" when it comes to ecology — your partnership with nature.

If you missed the news, here are two articles that explain it well. (Note: Both articles offer the option to listen as well as read.)

"Nations have delayed curbing their fossil-fuel emissions for so long that they can no longer stop global warming from intensifying over the next 30 years, though there is still a short window to prevent the most harrowing future . . ." A Hotter Future Is Certain, Climate Panel Warns. But How Hot Is Up to Us [The New York Times, August 2021]

"Global climate change is accelerating and human-caused emissions of greenhouse gases are the overwhelming cause, according to a landmark report released Monday by the United Nations. There is still time to avoid catastrophic warming this century, but only if countries around the world stop burning fossil fuels as quickly as possible, the authors warn. The message to world leaders is more dire, and more unequivocal, than ever before." A Major Report Warns Climate Change Is Accelerating And Humans Must Cut Emissions Now [NPR, August 2021]

So now what do we do?

The monthly Perelandra EoP Biodiversity Process is a simple, quick (just five minutes) way for all of us to band together to help counter climate change and loss of biodiversity. As the network builds and the months turn into years of all of us doing this process over and over and over again and continuing to grow, each time building on the time before . . . We may, one day, be able to see and share things about this amazing process that right now we can hardly imagine. So that's step one: Add your support to the monthly EoP Biodiversity Process. By the way, the next one is less than a week away on Wednesday, September 1!

Don't stop there. You have the ability to work with nature. Machaelle has developed everything you need to get started and thrive in that partnership. All is not lost. Action is the better option. Action in partnership with nature is the balanced, most effective option.

To that end, we would offer you a new Environment Series challenge: Set a goal to reduce your fossil fuel usage or help curb fossil fuel usage in some way, and then partner with nature to meet that goal.

A New Environment Series Challenge

Keep this simple. Let your efforts grow through avenues that are already a part of your life or "in your orbit" as the saying goes.

1. Choose your start point. Name your goal. This is your DDP (definition, direction and purpose). Here are a few examples:

  • I'd like to learn and accurately assess my personal fossil fuel usage and carbon footprint.

  • I'd like to reduce my household fossil fuel usage by 20% within the next three months.

  • I'd like to prepare a proposal to address the high carbon footprint of some business practices at my workplace.*

  • I'd like to join in local, national and/or international campaigns to implement or update laws that address climate change.

  • I'd like to develop a lesson plan to teach my students about climate change, and provide them with the tools to start taking action if they wish. *

Got the idea? Don't complicate it. You'll see better results when you keep it simple.

* It's important not to impose any work with nature where it's not your assigned role and responsibility. You won't be asking nature to work with others and you don't need to pull others into your work with nature. Nature is your partner and personal consultant. This work is to help you personally be more effective and successful in your projects, never to manipulate others. It's like working with an accountant when you need someone with more knowledge and experience than you to complete your tax return, or asking an electrician to help you with your home improvement project. There are times we all need more expertise than what we carry in our own head. This is a time. Nature has the expertise we need.

2. Take your goal to nature. Sit down and focus your attention on nature. Say, "Hello nature. I would like to _______ _______ _______ _______ (state the goal you chose in step 1)."

That's it. After saying this to nature, you may wish to say thank you.

3. Pay attention and act.In your daily life, pay attention to the ideas and thoughts that come your way.

Nature will respond and communicate, offer suggestions and ideas in a myriad of ways. You just need to pay attention — and act on those options and ideas nature sends your way.
